Valdis Bisters was born in 1963. He holds two university degrees – one in solid state physics and one in environmental management. Currently Mr. Bisters has position of the Director of Climate and Renewable Energy Department, Ministry of the Environment, Republic of Latvia.
For 7 years he was Head of External Relations of the Ministry and worked broadly on international cooperation.
Valdis Bisters was elected Chairman of the Baltic Agenda 21 – multistakeholder network on sustainable development in the Baltic Sea Region.
Mr. Bisters is co-founder of Environmental Science and Management Center in 1991 at the University of Latvia and his professional carrier was devoted to development of teaching methodologies on environmental management and sustainable development by application systems thinking and simulation and gaming.
Mr. Bisters was President of International Simulation and Gaming Association (ISAGA) in 1996 – 1997 and member of Steering Committee 1992 – 2000.
